Mayan region of Mexico launches Dec. 21, 2012, countdown

MEXICO CITY – Seize the day.  Only 52 weeks and a day are left before Dec. 21, 2012, when some believe the Maya predicted the end of the world.
Unlike enthusiasts of other doomsday theories who suggest putting together survival kits, southeastern Mexico, the heart of May territory, plans a yearlong celebration.
Mexico’s tourism agency expects to draw 52 million visitors by next year only to the regions of Chiapas, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Campeche.  All of Mexico usually lures about 22 million foreigners in a year.
It’s selling the date, the Winter Solstice in the coming year, as a time of renewal.  Many archeologists argue the 2012 reference on a 1,300 – year old stone tablet marks only the end of a cycle in the Mayan calendar.
“The world will not end.  It is an era,” said Yeanet Zaldo, a tourism spokeswoman for the state of Quintana Roo, home to Cancun.  “For us, it is a message of hope.”
Cities and towns in the Mayan region will start the yearlong countdown today.  In Chiapas the town of Tapachula on the Guatemalan border will start a countdown on an 8 – foot digital clock in the main park exactly a year before the mysterious date.
In the nearby archaeological site of Izapa, Maya priests will burn incense, chant and offer prayers.
“People who still live in Mayan villages will host rites and burn incense for us to go back in time and try to understand the Mayan wisdom,” Zaldo said.

I find it not too surprising that a “new age” event such as this would already be planned and underway.  The “Age of Aquarius” has been spoken of for years by the gurus of the New Age Movement and many other occultic organizations.
Clearly Jesus said, “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.  But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.  For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” (Matthew 24:36-39).
However, we should not be surprise (in our current political, religious, and financial turmoil), as we see the Bible speak of a time where a single political/religious leader will usher in a “New World Order” to bring the world’s religions and finances together under a new temporary era of false-peace and security by anti-Christ (2 Thessalonians 2: 1-12, Revelation 13:16-18, Revelation 14: 11).
I believe this 2012 event may be a pre-cursor or culmination toward the fulfillment of Bible prophecy.
2 Peter 3:18
