Living 900 Years?

By: Answers In Genesis
Did you know that people have lived for over 900 years, as the Bible teachers in Genesis?  Of course, few people today live to see 100.  But the Bible, the true history book of the universe, declares there were incredible life spans for many of the first humans.
A stunning animatronic Methuselah inside the
Creation Museum helps show visitors that
people once lived for several hundred years.
You probably recall reading that Methuselah lived to 969 years (Genesis 5:27).  We have a special exhibit on Methuselah inside the Creation Museum (see photo at left).
When you think about it, however, life spans approaching 1,000 years are short, for God originally made humans to live forever.  When Adam sinned (the Fall of Genesis 3), death became the new reality.  From Adam on, and especially after Noah’s Flood, we’ve seen much shorter lives.
Genes associated with aging and life spans have been affected as a result of the Fall.  This occurred either directly through mutations (the eight people who survived on the Ark may have had certain genetic mutations that limited life spans) or indirectly through what are called “genetic bottlenecks.”  (For more fascinating information about the topic of genes, Genesis, and longevity, check out our website, AnswersinGenesis.org.)
Our shorter lives remind us of what was lost in Eden because of sin.  Of course, modern medicine may slow down the process of aging and extend our lives, but it will never counter the ultimate end—death.  Thankfully, Romans 6 and 10 declare that one Man conquered death, the resurrected Christ promises eternal life to all who believe.
